The Federal Ministry of Education through a 'circular' dated 8th May, 2020 had issued a clarification on the resumption of schools as the fight against COVID-19 pandemic continues.
The Ministry noted that all schools would remain closed as it closely monitors the developments on the containment of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Nigeria.
The Education Ministry furthered that all Chief Executives and other stakeholders were to ignore 'fake news' on the subject matter in the Social media as the situation is under constant review and any decision on resumption would be conveyed through their appropriate Channels.
This is coming against a 'fake' press release purportedly from the Ministry which stated that all schools would resume by 1st June, 2020.
In a press release signed by the Ministry's Director of Press and Public Relation, Ben Bem Goong, the Ministry indicated that the Permanent Secretary did not grant any interview to Premium Times as widely circulated neither has the Honourable Minister issued any statement on the subject matter.
Mr Goong furthered that the Ministry's letter head and Signature as were used in the false press release was forged while the content was contradictory and incoherent, leaving the Ministry to wonder about the actual intention of the Author of the false press release.
