The N-Power Youth Congress (N-PYC) in a media briefing in Maiduguri, Borno State has demanded the recall of the disengaged 500,000 beneficiaries across the country or N500b paid to them as exit package.
The National Cordinator of N-PYC, Joseph Enan Maigari while making the request at the weekend expressed disappointment noting that it was the third briefing on the matter, yet, the Federal Government has refused to listen to their demands.
He said if the Federal Government could not absorb the disengaged beneficiaries, it should pay N500b grant to the 500,000 youths as exit package.
“I followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s address to the nation last Thursday in his response to #EndSARS protesters’ demands, but nothing was said about the 500,000 youths,” he said.
The N-PYC National Coordinator spoke further on the President Mohammadu Buhari Campaign promise to Nigerian youths and specific promises to N-power Beneficiaries stressing that the youths would hardly rest if their needs are not met with immediacy especially now that the disengaged N-power Beneficiaries struggle for survival with severe uncertainty.
“Once again, we are reminding President Buhari of his promises to us. That 36 states representatives of N-Power beneficiaries had earlier made their demands."
“We were struggling in different spheres of life to make a living. We were also meant to quit the things we were doing, before being engaged in the N-Power scheme. The Federal Government also pledged to absorb the youth after winding up the scheme. The youth will not relent until their demands are met."
Young Maigari speaking on the monthly stipend of N30,000 and huge expectation to be achieved with it noted that the monthly allowance could not meet their transportfare to Place of Assignment let alone their families’ basic needs, including school fees, electricity and water bills or any to save.
He urged the Federal Government to, while addressing the situation of the #EndSARS Protest, hasten to absorb N-power Beneficiaries that want to work with the Federal Government or give them a reasonable exit package to enable them to venture into other enterprises.
The N-PYC Cordinator pointed out that Boko Haram insurgents were empowered under the auspices of “Repentant Boko Haram, adding: “The innocent and harmless 500,000 beneficiaries have been crying every day, but no one listens to our cries. They will, however, continue to be law-abiding citizens.”
Meanwhile, the Imo State Government in response to the #EndSARS would be commencing the Trainig of youths in the State today through the Special Youth Empowerment and Intervention Programme (IMYEIP) as the Governor has earmarked N6billion to train and empower 5,000 youths in the State with N500,000 enterprise seed capital in 3 batches over 2 years.
Also, the Soun of Ogbomosoland has urged Governor Makinde of Oyo State to channel the balance of N90million he pledged for the renovation of his palace, to the development of youths in his community as his own way of addressing the #EndSARS Protest.
