Beware of NIN Individual Online Registration

A widely circulating website https://bit.ly/NIN--ONLINE-REGISTRATION claiming that the Federal Government has approved an individual Online National Identity Number (NIN) Registration has been spotted and it is FAKE.

"Federal gorvernment has approved, NIN individual registration online to fasten the rate of registered users before the blackage of all citizens sim card, the registration will end on the 1st of April Enroll now," the website hurriedly instigated.

The hastily built data Phishing website buried in bit.ly is "https://nin-online-registration.get-fund.online" which has nothing to offer other than collecting unsuspecting victim's essentially data for fraudulent purposes including device and account hacking, or in lay for organised financial crimes against the victim.

The Federal Government has never announced an "Online NIN Enrolment" knowing fully well that it can not be perfected "online" because it involves capture of Biometrics data. There is only "online SIM-NIN linkage" which is conducted by the Network operators in Nigeria.

The Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami announcing the extension of NIN-SIM linkage deadline to April 6th disclosed that the Federal Government has activated and made operational over 1,060 NIN Registration Centers across the Federation adding that Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have opened hundreds of NIN registration Centers and are rapidly deploying resources to open thousands of the Centers across the States of the Country to ease the NIN Registration and NIN-SIM integration process.

Pantami who made the announcenent during a meeting of Ministerial Taskforce on NIN-SIM registration held on 1st February, 2021 and contained in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Nigeria Communication Commissions (NCC), Dr Ikechukwu Adinde and the Head of Corporate Communications, National Identity Management Commision, Mr Kayode Adegoke, 2nd February, 2021 did not at any point in time declare any intention of the Federal Government to embark on Online NIN Registration.

The Federal Government had however in December, 2020 released NIN Enrolment Forms which can be downloaded online, filled and taken to any physical NIN Registration Centers for the capture of Biometric data, a way of reducing cluster in the registration Centers as well as prevent the spread of COVID-19 Pandemic.
