The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Mr Festus Keyamo has, Saturday, stated that the Federal Government has commenced partial payment of the beneficiaries of the Special Public Works Programme while explaining the reasons behind the delay of the payments as he earlier directed.
Recall that the 774,000 beneficiaries of the programme had last week protested the non-payment of the N20,000 Stipends even as the programme completes it's three months duration without an official statement on the possibility of it's extention.

Keyamo in the press statement titled "NDE COMMENCES PARTIAL PAYMENTS OF SPW (774,000 JOBS) STIPENDS" explained:
"After the release of some of the funds by the Ministry of Finance for the payment of SPW stipends, I directed a rigorous scrutiny of the accounts of the participants before payments."
"We discovered instances of accounts not matching BVNs, multiple accounts bearing a single BVN, non-existent BVNs, etc.
"Because of our determination to eliminate fraud, I further directed the NDE to write to the banks to clean up these anomalies before commencing payments.
He furthered that so far, only ACCESS Bank has responded with accounts verified for payments and the NDE has, Saturday, commenced payments of those accounts with ACCESS Bank adding that they await the responses of ZENITH, UBA, FCMB, FIDELITY, HERITAGE & Yobe Micro-Finance Banks to clean up the anomalies.
The Minister expressing deep feelings about that Special Public Works Programme emphasised that their determination to ensure those selected for the programme get paid to assist them in these tough times is also matched by their determination to ensure that the programme does not spiral into a vehicle for fraud.
Keyamo added that no fraudulent intention can be condoned under the watch of President Mohammadu Buhari or under his own watch, hence, demands to be rectified to ensured the true beneficiaries get their payments.
