The Nigerian Air Force has, Friday, reported that the Nigerian Army Chief, Ibrahim Attahiru, has died in an air crash while on an official trip to Kaduna.
Announcing the incidence, the Air Force Director of Public Relations and Information, Edward Gabkwet, stated that the immediate cause of the crash is being investigated.
"An air crash involving a @NigAirForceaircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon," NAF tweeted.
Daily Trust however reported that a source said there were eight persons on board the aircraft.
Mr Ibrahim Attahiru was born on 10th August, 1966 in Doka, Kaduna North Local Government Area, Kaduna State and graduated from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Until the his appointment in January by President Mohammadu Buhari, he was the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.
With service number 8406, he was a member of Regular Course 35 of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
He was an Operation Officer and later Company Commander in NIBATT 19 ECOMOG Operations in Liberia.
Also, he had the unique privilege of having commanded with distinction all through the chain of command in the Nigerian Army.
